This year's 35th annual Winner Tiberias Marathon which will be held January 12, 2012 has over 30 elite athletes scheduled to compete. Among these athletes are some of the top elite runners including;
Robert Kipkoech Cheruiyot (Kenya) - 2:07:14 Wasborn 26.9.78. At the IAAF website his written PB is 2:07:35 from the 2006 Chicago marathon. He won the 2008 Boston marathon in 2:07:46 and finished 5th at the Berlin 2009 athletics world championship marathon with 2:10:46. He also clocked 2:09:56 at the ING 2009 New york marathon.
John Sammy Kibet, (Kenya)-2:08:17 The 30 year old won this year (25.9) Warsaw marathon with a new course record of 2:08:17, 1 minute faster than the old course record and 2:51min faster than his own marathon PB set 2 years ago in Marakesh, Morocco.
Lenoard Mucheru Maina (Kenya)-2:08:53 Ran at the Tiberias marathon for the first time in 2007 (the 30th annual edition, which was also his first ever) as Mushir Salem Jawher, representing Bahrain. Although he came as a set pacer, he won by clocking 2:13:13. A few weeks after the marathon the Bahrainean authorities deprived his Bahrainean citizenship because he participated in an international sport event in Israel. Despite all this, he returned to the next (2008) Tiberias marathon, that time as Maina Leonard Mucheru from Kenya where, he won it once again with a new course record of 2:10:31 and a $40,000 US prize. A year latter he set at the 32 Tiberias marathon a new marathon PB clocking 2:09:36, a result that gave him only the 2nd place overall after his countrymen Jackson Kipkoech Kotut who set the present course record of 2:08:07. At the last 2 additions of the Tiberias marathons Leonard Muchero was determined to set a new course record but he was unsuccessful after setting an amazing pace at the first half of the marathon, he didn’t finish both of them.
Edwin Koech Kutto, (Kenya)-2:08:57 Born on 8.1.84. Set his PB this year at Eindhoven marathon (9.10). His SB at 2010 was 2:09:51 set at Hannover marathon and 2:11:55 in Koln marathon 2009.
Francis Kibiwott Larabal (Kenya)-2:09:00 Born on 15.9.78. Set his PB at the 2009 Seoul marathon (1.11). Clocked 2:09:26 at 2010 Paris marathon, and 2:13:08 at the 2009 Madrid marathon.
Mesfin Hailu Lemma, (Ethiopia)-2:09:36 Born 1.1.82 in Addis Ababa. According to the IAAF website his PB is 2:09:50 set at the Xiamen marathon in China 2.1.11.
The organization Committee expects to break many of its own registration records this year including, most participants. There are over 15 different countries being represented at this year's marathon. Representation from some of the following countries will be in attendance; Australia, Austria, Belgium, Britain, Canada, Finland, Germany, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Norway, Singapore, South Africa, Switzerland and the U.S.A.
